As she closes in on the June 28 release of her album Wild Is Love, New York City vocalist Naama drops another single from the disc, the 1941 Jimmy Dorsey and Paul Madeira composition “I’m Glad There Is You.” The new single follows “Who Am I” and “Baby Won’t You Please Come Home.” The song was first recorded on December 22, 1941, in New York City by Jimmy Dorsey and His Orchestra, featuring vocalist Bob Eberly. The song was released on Decca Records in early 1942. Covered by the usual suspects, “I’m Glad There Is You” came to a screeching stop at Naama’s door, ready for her. The singer performed the ballad in a quiet duet with guitarist Peter Bernstein, who introduced the song gently with a descending single-note line that gains momentum with the guitarist’s expert chording. Naama sings the song languidly, lazily in love with the subject of her performance. Dreamy and crepuscular, Naama sings with boastful bliss as she expounds on the charms of her love. The singer’s voice has continued to mature with her studied delivery. Naama sharpens her ability to compress a pile of pathos into the small confines of 2 minutes and 28 seconds.
