My series The Top 25 Live Rock Recordings attracted more readers than any five of my other articles. I have envisioned enlarging this list and I am ready to do so.
The Top 100 Live Albums will include The Top 25 Live Rock Recordings, ostensibly placed in their rightful position in the list. That being said, I believe in lists like this, particularly the long ones, including 100 to 500 recordings, that all the positions are arbitrary until the top ten. That is how I intend to treat this list. I want to address 75 live recordings of any genre to complete this list and I want your help, gentle reader.
Please comment here or send me a note of any kind, suggesting an album to include in this more complete list and briefly tell me why you think that your recording warrants inclusion. I will give you five examples of recordings I will include on this list to give you an idea of what I want:
B.B. King - Live In Cook County Jail (ABC Records, 1970)
James Brown - Live At The Apollo (King Records, 1963)
Wilhelm Furtwängler & The Berlin Philharmonic - Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 “Choral” in D minor, Op. 125 (1942) (Pristine Classical, 2010)
Bob Marley and the Wailers - LIVE! (Island, 1975)
Frank Sinatra - Sinatra At The Sands (Reprise, 1966)
Any genre is game for this list. I will publish these reviews weekly on Fridays, beginning January 3, 2025. This should keep me busy for the next year and one-half. Thanking you all in advance.
Greetings Marc: These are just the type of suggestions I am looking for. I would not have considered either and I cannot wait to listen to them. Thank you again.
Hi Joe, Thank you for this suggestion. I had not considered Buck Owens, but will do so. I was already on the Cash and had marked Waylon Jennings as well.
