Svetlana - "Moonlight"
New York City vocalist Svetlana releases another single from her reimagined 2019 release, Night At The Movies.
We previously most recently heard from singer-composer Svetlana with the drop of her first single, the Amber Navran remix of “Pure Imagination,” from her soon-to-be-released EP, Reel To Remix: Night At The Movies Reimagined. This EP features Svetlana with six producers who remixed six songs from her 2019 album, Night At The Movies (Starr Records). She follows “Pure Imagination” with a Melanie Charles remix of “Moonlight” from the 1995 romantic comedy Sabrina (Paramount).
Melanie Charles, a product of the New School University for Jazz and Contemporary Music, is a jazz musician and composer best known for her 2021 recording Y'all Don't (Really) Care About Black Women (Verve Records).
John Williams composed “Moonlight” with lyrics written by Alan and Marilyn Bergman. Gil Goldstein scored the song originally as a swaying Bossa Nova with richly adorned strings. The song reflected the film’s protagonist’s desire for a better future. One object of remixes is to realize the new from the familiar. Charles transforms this celluloid confection into an MDMA-tinctured take on a Mid-century Modern performance infused with swirling synths, bumping beats, and a dreamlike flute sequence courtesy of Ms. Charles.
Svetlana’s project is developing nicely. It will be fun to hear what is next.
