Kelly Green - Corner of My Dreams
(Green Soul Studios, 2025)
Corner of My Dreams is Kelly Green’s response to her mother’s death in 2021. On this, her fifth release, Green composed, arranged and produced all the selections, modelled after the Disney classic film scores she heard growing up. Lush and resonant, the singer wanted to capture as many thoughts and moods as possible in remembering her mother.
Green’s efforts represent her greatest artistic advance in evolving career. Her working trio with bassist Luca Soul Rosenfeld and drummer Evan Hyde is supplemented by a string quartet under the leadership of violinist Ludovica Burtone; percussionist Andromeda Turre; and an inspired assembly of vocalists that includes Emily Braden, Tahira Clayton, Jimmy Kraft, and Michael Mayo.
The two opening pieces (“Let Me In” and “Corner of My Dreams”) were written before her mother had died and present as a deeply moving preface to the rest of the recording. Green’s reach spans an impressive array of genres, demonstrating considerable growth in both Green’s singing and compositional skills. Green heads to church on the gospel-inspired waltz “Nothing at All.” Green ties up the recording with the expansive “At Eternity’s Sunrise.” It is deeply personal, and the singer stretches her considerable vocal skill further an ever before.
Kelly Green has fully arrived in her grief, channelling this potent emotion into a cogent and intense expression of life in full. This is realized in her edgy, forward-facing composing and progressive production. Corner of My Dreams is a definitive statement.
